The Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Treasury inaugurates the Forum

The event will gather 3 presidents, 18 ministers, entrepreneurs and world class experts, coming from the 34 countries in the region.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mariano Fernandez, and the Minister of Economy, Hugo Lavados, -who will be hosting the event-, presented today the III Americas Competitiveness Forum, event that will gather in our country the Ministers of Economy and Industry of the Americas and the Caribbean, top private sector executives, multilateral organizations representatives, outstanding experts and scholars, and ONGs in order to discuss scenarios and opportunities in the current global financial dilemma.  The Forum has received constant support from President Bachelet and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, who have worked closely with the Minister of Finance to organize a world-class event.
 “When we are already seeing signs in the economies of the region that indicate a recovery, it is essential to discuss how we can come out strengthened from the crisis to capture the opportunities that will arise. Building up our competitiveness is the best way to recover high growth rates and quickly create more and better jobs”, stated the Minister of Economy, Hugo Lavados.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mariano Fernandez, emphasized “the importance that government and private sector representatives of the Continent work together to face the new scenario that has emerged, and which requires actions that will allow us to overcome the crisis and generate new development opportunities and improve our people’s quality of life.”
Fernandez added that “we have painstakingly in worked our region to launch initiatives to prevent the outcome of the international financial meltdown to hit mid and lower income countries. The Competitiveness Forum has been present in all bilateral and multilateral talks in which Chile has recently participated and it reflects the extensive presidential, ministerial and corporate participation that has already been confirmed.”
