The Ministry of Economy and LAN, organizer and sponsor of the event respectively, participated in a project that reduces greenhouse gases emissions in order to neutralize the carbon dioxide effect that the event will generate.
In tune with the environment, the Ministry of Economy has bet for the III Americas Competitiveness Forum to follow the world “carbon neutral” trend and, along with LAN, Platinium sponsor of the event, invested around 12 thousand Euros in the Brazilian sustainable project Hydro Power Plant in Midwest, in order to neutralize the CO2 emissions generated by all the activities of the Forum, which will take place on September 27-29 in Santiago, Chile.
By investing in this project, the Ministry is taking the lead in sustainable development matters, using the “Carbon Neutral” formula which aims to eliminate the carbon dioxide sent out to the atmosphere. For this, it is necessary to purchase carbon credits on sustainable projects equivalent to the metric tons generated by the company, project or similar.
To calculate the carbon emissions that this event will produce, the global carbon dioxide emission reduction and management services company FirstClimate was assigned to carry out a studio in which, by means of a detailed register of the activities that will take place during the three days of the event –trips, number of participants, paper used, among others-, calculated that the gas emissions will reach the 1,115 metric tons.
From this calculation, they decided to compensate this pollution with the Brazilian project Hydro Power Plant in Midwest, which consists on the installation of a little hydro-renewable power station, placed in a peripheral area of the country, which with advance technology replaces the production of fuels, reducing the gas emissions and the environmental impact.
