international media correspondents, the Minister of Economy highlighted the good reception that the event has had.
In the context of the III Americas Competitiveness Forum, which will take place in Santiago on September 27-29, the Ministry of Economy Hugo Lavados emphasized that competitiveness “is more important now, after facing an international crisis.”
In a breakfast with the international media correspondents, where he presented the scope of the Forum, the Minister of Economy assured that competitiveness has always been a relevant issue for Chile and other countries of the region; however, global contingency has created a greater debate on how to apply measures that benefit the competitiveness of the countries.
“For those global economies with a greater delay in terms of competitiveness policies it will be more difficult to get out of the crisis.”
Talking about competitiveness and those models that Chile observes with interest, the Minister set as examples the case of Brazil and its health services, Canada on resource system for applied research, and energy efficiency in California, U.S.A.
The Minister of Economy also highlighted the good reception that the new version of the Americas Competitiveness Forum has had in the region. He confirmed that three presidents, 20 ministers and numerous businesspeople are attending. Among them, he pointed out the Chief of Staff of Brazil, Dilma Rouseff, the Minister of Production of Peru, Mercedes Aráoz, and the Deputy Secretary General of the OECD, Pier Carlo Padoan.
"We will address specific and urgent problems that are holding back our competitiveness, matters such as access to financing, the quality of our infrastructure, access to clean and low cost energy, and the challenge of combining economic growth and environmental protection,” he explained.
